About The Position
DATTCO is hiring a School Bus Aide in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The role assists students during school transportation, including boarding, exiting, street crossings, and emergencies, and helps the driver maintain student safety. The position pays $19 per hour and guarantees 20 hours per week on a split shift covering morning and afternoon pickups and drop-offs.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must successfully complete required pre-employment screening, including state and national criminal background checks, registry checks, drug testing, and other screenings required by law, the Rhode Island DMV, school district policy, or DATTCO policy.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to repeatedly enter and exit the vehicle and perform required vehicle inspections.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and use vehicle safety equipment.
- Ability to assist passengers during boarding, exiting, and emergency evacuations.

Responsibilities
- Exit the bus at every stop and assist students with street crossings.
- Assist students entering and exiting the bus.
- Check under and behind the tires before re-entering the bus.
- Provide accommodations included in students’ transportation plans.
- Maintain reasonable behavior among children on the bus, minivan, van, or car.
- Enforce school bus safety rules, including ensuring students remain seated, do not harm themselves or others, and do not eat on the bus or violate other safety regulations.
- Recognize dangerous situations affecting children’s safety and report them to the driver immediately.
- Assist the driver with a spot inspection after each school run to ensure all children have exited the bus.
- Assist with buckling children and using other safety equipment as required by safety laws.
- Assist with evacuating children from the vehicle during emergencies.
- Assist the driver with directions according to a predetermined route sheet.
