About The Position

Join ReDiscover’s Children's Community Service Department and be part of a mission-driven organization that’s been transforming lives for over 50 years. As a non-profit community mental health center serving southeastern Jackson County, Missouri, we’re passionate about helping individuals impacted by mental illness or substance use find hope, support, and healing. Our Children's Services program offers mental health services to school aged youth at home, school, or in their community. Through a collaborative partnership with ReDiscover and the Lee's Summit School District, this position is embedded within local schools to increase access to care and reduce barriers such as transportation and scheduling challenges. In addition to providing direct therapeutic services, the Mental Health Therapist plays an active role within the school environment by offering consultation, classroom support, and training to school personnel. The Mental Health Therapist also collaborates with educators and support staff to plan and implement services for both general education and special education students. This position operates as a shared role between ReDiscover and the Lee's Summit School District. While the Mental Health Therapist works closely with both entities, formal clinical supervision is provided by ReDiscover.

Requirements

• Availability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of clients enrolled in the program.
• Master’s or Doctorate Degree in a social science field (as defined by the Department of Mental Health).
• Active clinical license in the State of Missouri which includes: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
• The ability to work with all persons with multiple challenges (mental illness, substance abuse, physical challenges, developmental disabilities, etc.).
• A valid automobile operator’s license, vehicle and state minimum require automobile coverage is required.
• Excellent customer service skills with a recovery focus.
• Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as the use of email.

Nice To Haves

• At least two (2) years clinical experience in a direct service provision to children and adolescents in a mental health setting preferred.
• Knowledge of the community resources as well as health and social service systems in the Kansas City metro area and skill in establishing working relationships with community partners preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct individual mental health counseling sessions with students on an IEP or in regular education to address mental health conditions impeding success at school.
• May lead therapeutic student groups.
• Identify at-risk students for the purpose of providing support and referrals to ensure student progress and ongoing involvement of family members in the educational process.
• Provide prevention and early intervention services for the purpose of supporting student mental health and promoting overall school success.
• Assist school personnel with developing student success plans that outline specific goals promoting student wellness, positive development, school connectedness, and achievement.
• Develop and/or implement annual IEP counseling goals for students with disabilities and collaborates with appropriate team members to document regular progress.
• Assist in developing plans (e.g. RTI, Individual Student Success Plan, Behavioral Intervention Plan, Individual Education Plan, etc.) for the purpose of providing individual or small group counseling, and/or other indirect support.
• Confer with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or implementing student objectives.
• Provide biopsychosocial assessment and case management services as appropriate for children and youth who are ReDiscover clients.
• Assess children and families accurately and completely using all the diagnostic tools required.
• Develop treatment plans that match the needs of the child/family/community and works toward meeting goals of the treatment plan.
• Follow through with all tasks and interventions that are identified by all parties involved.
• Maintain clear concise communication that is timely and accurate with all parties to the service provision.
• Integrate service provision to all parties to address the needs of the client.
• Meet with clients/families within the timeframes established by the program.
• Demonstrate clinically sound judgment and seeks appropriate supervision and/or training for difficult or hard to serve clients.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation, records, and reports for the purpose of meeting organizational, state and school district requirements.
• Research and coordinate with community agencies and leaders for the purpose of building resources and expanding program capabilities.
