School Aide in CDL Training

Beacon Mobility•South Fallsburg, NY

About The Position

Rolling V Bus Corp. offers a Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) training program in which participants work as School Bus Aides while training to become licensed school bus drivers. The program provides classroom instruction for obtaining a CDL permit and vehicle and behind-the-wheel training in preparation for the road test. Classes are scheduled every eight weeks, with training sessions of about two hours around midday to avoid conflicts with aide work hours. Participants earn $18.00 per hour for both work and training time. After obtaining a CDL, pay is listed as $20.00 per hour for van assignments or $25.00 per hour for bus assignments, each with 4.5 hours guaranteed daily. Drivers may access additional hours through late runs, midday assignments, or charter trips. The work of both School Bus Aides and School Bus Drivers centers on ensuring children are transported safely and on time to and from school. The position requires communication with parents or guardians, school officials, and coworkers, as well as writing skills for regulatory reports. The role also involves physical performance requirements and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to working with children and people with developmental disabilities. Applicants must complete an application and new-hire packet, provide satisfactory identification, authorize contact with three references, and provide residential address history. They must authorize a background investigation and complete a pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening. A paid six-hour pre-service training is provided, and additional skills training may be required. The physical performance test includes climbing and descending bus steps, quickly exiting from a seated position, using the rear emergency door, and carrying or dragging a 125-pound weight to simulate evacuating a person.
