About The Position

The School-Aged Child Care Assistant (SACC Assistant) will work within the Utica Community Schools system at various locations. This position is responsible for providing a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children aged 5-12 during before and after school hours. The role involves supervising children, assisting with activities, communicating with parents, and maintaining program standards.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history and childcare background check.
  • Current CPR and first aid certification (must be maintained annually).
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Evidence of strong teamwork, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Evidence of accurate record-keeping.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with parents/guardians and staff.
  • Discretion with confidential information.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Childcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a welcoming and friendly classroom environment for all children, parents, visitors, and the school community.
  • Assist and supervise children during all activities; counsel children as needed using positive and appropriate discipline techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, address concerns in a timely manner, give positive feedback, and provide regular updates to families.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for children, being aware of child activities at all times.
  • Help to maintain a learning environment with developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 5-12.
  • Check children into the SACC program and ensure proper staff to child ratios are kept.
  • Ensure that the appearance and cleanliness of the classroom are appropriately maintained.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding families, co-workers, and self.
  • Observe, record, and report significant undesirable children behaviors to either the SACC Director, parents/guardian or appropriate authorities.
  • Adjust the daily schedule as needed when the child ratio changes.
  • Be available for additional hours when the elementary schools have early dismissals or during mid-winter and spring breaks.
  • Assume responsibility in an emergency or if Director is absent.
  • Present a positive and professional image at all times.
  • Adhere to district policies and state licensing guidelines.
  • Perform light cleaning duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
