About The Position

Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a part-time School-Age Childcare Counselor for its After School Program at Oxmoor Valley Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama, for the 2026–2027 school year. The program follows the school calendar and runs Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Pay is $15.00 per hour. The counselor supports school-age children through engaging activities, homework time, and a safe, positive after-school environment.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years old.
Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
Be medically cleared of communicable diseases, including TB.
Be warm, friendly, and upbeat, with exceptional people skills; be professional, reliable, and prompt.
Be physically able to bend, stretch, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and maintain active supervision while participating in children's routines and activities.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience working with children under 13 years of age is preferred.

Responsibilities

Facilitate hands-on activities following the Healthy Kids Curriculum, including fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and other group activities, as well as homework completion.
Provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment and act as a positive role model for children in the program.
Observe state guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program policies, and host school policies.
Support program operations, which may include attendance records, registration, and staffing responsibilities.
