About The Position

Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a part-time School-Age Counselor for its After School Program at South Hampton Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama, for the 2026–2027 school year. The role follows the school calendar and runs Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Pay is $15.00 per hour.

The counselor supports children through hands-on, play-based activities and homework completion while providing a safe, healthy, and engaging environment. The position also involves following applicable state and program policies and supporting program operations. The role may suit parents seeking a school-aligned schedule, education majors or future teachers seeking practical experience, and retirees who enjoy working with children.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Be medically cleared of communicable diseases, including tuberculosis.
• Be warm, friendly, and upbeat.
• Have exceptional people skills and be professional, reliable, and prompt.
• Be physically able to bend, stretch, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and maintain active supervision while participating in children's routines and activities.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience working with children under 13 years of age is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate hands-on activities using the Healthy Kids Curriculum, including fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and other group activities, as well as homework completion.
• Provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment and act as a positive role model for children.
• Follow state guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program policies, and host school policies.
• Support program operations, which may include maintaining attendance records, registration, and staffing responsibilities.
