About The Position

Healthy Kids Programs is hiring a part-time School-Age Counselor for its After School Program at South Hampton Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama, for the 2026–2027 school year. The program serves school-age children ages 5–12. The position follows the school calendar and is scheduled Monday through Friday from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Pay is $15.00 per hour.

The counselor leads and supports engaging activities, helps children complete homework, and provides a safe, healthy, and fun environment. The role also involves following applicable state, program, and school policies and supporting program operations. Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Be medically cleared of communicable diseases, including TB.
• Be warm, friendly, and upbeat, with exceptional people skills; be professional, reliable, and prompt.
• Be physically able to bend, stretch, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and maintain active supervision while participating in children's routines and activities.

Nice To Haves

• One year of experience working with children under 13 years of age is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate hands-on activities following the Healthy Kids Curriculum, including fitness, STEAM, academic, art, and other group activities, as well as homework completion.
• Provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment and act as a positive role model for children in the program.
• Observe state guidelines, Healthy Kids Extended Day Program policies, and host school policies.
• Support program operations, which may include attendance records, registration, and staffing responsibilities.
