About The Position

NRHEG Community Education is seeking caring, dependable, and energetic individuals to work in our School Age Care (SAC) Program. Positions may range from approximately 2–6 hours per day or as assigned, with opportunities available before and after school, on non-school days, and during the summer. The SAC program provides a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children preschool through 5th grade. Staff are responsible for actively supervising children, supporting daily routines, leading and participating in activities, and helping create a positive experience for children and families. Successful candidates will enjoy working with children and demonstrate patience, responsibility, flexibility, good judgment, and strong communication and organizational skills.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have experience working with children in a childcare, school, recreation, or related setting.
Be CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens certified or be willing and able to obtain required certification after hire.
Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Be able to plan, organize, and lead age-appropriate activities.
Demonstrate an understanding of child development and the individual needs of children.
Maintain dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
Have dependable transportation.
Demonstrate patience, kindness, and genuine concern for the care and well-being of children.
Work effectively with children and understand the importance of age-appropriate expectations.
Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, families, coworkers, and school staff.
Be dependable, punctual, flexible, and prepared to work assigned shifts.
Demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and program information.
Work cooperatively as part of a team and provide positive customer service to families.
Follow all NRHEG School Age Care and school district policies, procedures, and safety expectations.
Complete required training as assigned.

A degree or coursework in early childhood education, child development, education, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Actively supervise children at all times, maintaining awareness of where children are and what they are doing.
Provide a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all children.
Engage with children and participate in activities, games, crafts, outdoor play, and other program experiences.
Support positive behavior and address behavioral concerns calmly, consistently, and appropriately.
Follow individual student plans, accommodations, health plans, or behavioral supports as directed by appropriate school/program staff.
Greet children and families in a friendly and professional manner and communicate appropriately with parents/guardians.
Maintain accurate attendance and ensure established check-in, check-out, and child-release procedures are followed.
Maintain confidentiality of all child and family information.
Assist children with daily routines and age-appropriate hygiene needs.
Prepare, organize, and clean up materials, activities, snacks, and program spaces as assigned.
Follow program procedures for injuries, illnesses, accidents, incidents, emergencies, and behavioral concerns.
Care for program equipment, supplies, and facilities and report damaged or unsafe items.
Perform general cleaning and sanitizing duties necessary to maintain a safe and orderly childcare environment.
Arrive on time and be ready to begin assigned responsibilities at the start of each shift.
Remain calm, professional, and use sound judgment during challenging or emergency situations.
Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
Maintain accurate timekeeping and other required program documentation.
Perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the children and program.
Providing daily direction and guidance to aides and paraprofessionals.
Communicating the day's schedule, activities, responsibilities, and relevant child information to assigned staff.
Providing leadership and supervision to staff within the assigned SAC group or program area.
Planning and preparing age-appropriate activities, crafts, games, and enrichment opportunities.
Implementing curriculum, activities, and program plans provided or approved by the Community Education Director/SAC Supervisor.
Communicating regularly with the Community Education Director/SAC Supervisor regarding children, families, staffing, incidents, concerns, and other important program information.
Preparing SAC program areas prior to children's arrival and/or completing closing procedures at the end of the program day.
Assisting with attendance records, scheduling information, and weekly childcare hours used for billing when assigned.
Helping maintain appropriate staff-to-child supervision and communicating staffing needs or concerns to the supervisor.
Providing leadership during emergencies and ensuring established safety procedures are followed.
Participating in additional annual training related to child development, behavior guidance, supervision, safety, customer service, and other program needs.
