About The Position

Horizon Education Centers is seeking an enthusiastic educator to join their school-age staff. The Lead Teacher will help create a safe, supportive environment where children can grow outside of school hours. Horizon has been providing high-quality care and education for over 46 years, serving children from 6 weeks to 14 years of age. Their mission is to provide high-quality early childhood education, care, and youth development programs in communities including Cleveland, Elyria, Lorain, North Olmsted, Berea, Parma, and Lakewood.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and experience in a school age setting are required
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to changing environments and assignments as required
  • We seek someone who is prompt and reliable and who possesses a genuine love of children
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs. as required
  • Must be able to pass background checks and physical/ medical screening as required

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or willingness to obtain a School Age Endorsement though the state is preferred
  • Experience in a classroom setting and with school age children is preferred
  • Willingness to update job knowledge with required training, DCY licensing rules and SUTQ professional development opportunities, and industry trends

Responsibilities

  • Homework assistance in one-on-one and small group settings; check work and ensure completion if possible
  • Plan and implement engaging age-appropriate lesson plans for classroom activities and clubs
  • Responsible for the care and supervision of children and classroom management at all times in accordance with licensing standards and best practices
  • Work independently with a group of children and as a leader for the team with other teachers, leads, center staff and the director
  • Build positive relationships with children, families and other staff members through prompt and accurate response and service, cheerful and professional attitude, and problem-solving spirit
  • Manage a classroom environment that is fun and engaging
  • Complete and document services provided, such as progress reports, attendance screenings, and assessments as required
  • Provide functional classroom support and assist with meal service as required
  • May be required to assist with center transportation plans
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality with personnel and family information
  • All other duties as needed/assigned
