About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Erie is looking to hire a Part-Time School Age Before / After School Teacher for our childcare program. This position pays up to $16.48/hour, with the rate based on experience and educational credentials. The typical schedule for this childcare position is 25-30 hours per week, Monday - Friday. As an Assistant Teacher at one of our childcare locations, you assist the child care program director in ensuring a positive and enriching experience for all children involved. You provide proper supervision and discipline for the children, acting as a role model. You assist with the enrollment of new children and facilitate their onboarding, along with their parents, into the Y Program. You communicate with parents on a daily basis, maintaining rapport between children, parents, and the Child Care Program Director. You help implement lesson plans based on child development principles, keep the classroom clean and in order, and maintain accurate classroom records. You ensure compliance with YMCA standards and government regulations and participate in family events and program activities.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in Secondary Education or 2500 hours of documented experience (i.e. Babysitting, Etc)
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Ability to pass a physical
  • Negative TB test
  • Love for children
  • Basic understanding of child development and teaching strategies
  • Patient and able to remain calm when stressed
  • Enjoy reading and singing with children

Nice To Haves

  • Must enroll in a CDA (child development associate) training program within the first year of employment if not already attending or having completed secondary education)
