About The Position

Shore Educational Collaborative is a multi-service agency providing services for people with disabilities. We are hiring a School Adjustment Counselor to work with students at a new program in Cambridge. This program will serve students in a range of grades. Only licensed mental health professionals will be considered (LICSW, Lic. Mental Health Counselors) The School Adjustment Counselor will work with students who struggle socially, emotionally, or behaviorally, helping them to maximize their educational opportunities by teaching problem solving, conflict resolution, and coping strategies. This position is for the 2026/27 School Year, however, there is an opportunity to work during the 2026 Summer Enrichment Program from July 6 to July 31.

Requirements

  • Experience with students with emotional disabilities.
  • DESE School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor License.
  • A writing sample (clinical assessment) will be requested at the time of the interview.
  • Collaborative Professionals participate in the Massachusetts Teachers Retirement System.
  • All school staff who may be expected to manage behavior must obtain and maintain certification in Shore's approved behavioral safety training program (Safety Care or equivalent).
  • These skills are essential to ensuring the safety of all program participants and staff, and to meet state and federal requirements related to the safe implementation of behavior intervention plans.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to students who require counseling in order to access curriculum and instruction.
  • Develop and implement measurable goals and objectives which address students' emotional needs.
  • Provide interventions for students in crisis.
  • Provide strategies, support, and resources to help teachers manage social/emotional issues in the classroom.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with families and with various social agencies within the community and make referrals as needed.
  • Assess students in short-term evaluation programs and develop written reports to provide to members of the student's team.
  • Attend IEP meetings and provide evidence of student progress toward goals and objectives.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of student progress (clinical notes).
  • Facilitate social skills groups.
