About The Position

Our Instructional Aide supports students with a high level of social/emotional and behavioral needs in all aspects of behavior management and classroom instruction in a constructive, supportive and positive manner. The IA also works directly with and support paraprofessionals and teachers on an ongoing basis. This position will support new classrooms in Cambridge.

Requirements

  • Ability to fully participate in any and all physical requirements of the position.
  • High School Diploma required
  • One-year minimum experience with students with disabilities preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience implementing behavioral interventions as well as crisis intervention.
  • All school staff who may be expected to manage behavior must obtain and maintain certification in Shore's approved behavioral safety training program (Safety Care or equivalent).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • One-year minimum experience with students with disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement all aspects of behavior management programs.
  • Provide positive feedback for appropriate behavior including verbal/social praise, and activity reinforcements as determined by students’ individual programs.
  • Supervision of students’ safety in all educational settings such as classroom, hallways and community outings, etc.
  • Collect and record data on students’ targeted behavior.
  • Provide daily instruction and programming according to prescribed academic program.
  • Collect and record data on all academic programs.
  • Assist teacher in the development of behavioral and educational programs.
  • Become and maintain certification as a trainer in Safety-Care or other required de-escalation and crisis management program.
  • Arrange or assist in arranging staff coverage of paraprofessionals in the morning and/or throughout the day based on student needs.
  • Train and support new paraprofessionals.
  • Assist in writing behavior plans.
  • Substitute in a class on a short or long term basis.
  • Implement and model positive behavioral interventions, de-escalation techniques, relationship building and limit setting.
