About The Position

The Museum of Science is seeking a Scholar-in-Residence for the Center for the Environment. This role involves creating educational products connected to the 'Life in the Forest' exhibition and the 'Biodiversity' theme. The scholar will develop participatory science activities, training materials, and resources for visualizing biodiversity data. They will also contribute to the Museum's newsletter, present internally, and collaborate with production teams on various educational deliverables. Opportunities include professional development in science communication, creation of peer-reviewed publications, development of educational products, utilization of the Museum's environmental data collection capacities, enhanced collaboration for community-engaged learning, and engagement with professional networks.

Requirements

  • Scholar remains an employee of home institution.
  • Identification of a collaborative funding mechanism to support scholars.

Responsibilities

  • Create a suite of educational products connected to the Life in the Forest exhibition and the proposed 2027 spotlight theme of Biodiversity.
  • Develop forest-focused participatory science activities.
  • Create training materials for citizen/participatory scientists.
  • Develop resources for the Public Science Common to visualize and query community-generated biodiversity data or highlight current research.
  • Provide bi-weekly contributions to the Museum’s Earthshift Newsletter.
  • Develop training materials for Museum educators.
  • Give presentations on broad MOS internal communication channels.
  • Develop other educational deliverables in collaboration with production teams (exhibits, K-12, digital, etc.).
  • Develop courses for university students.
  • Produce peer-reviewed publications leveraging the Museum’s research and evaluation and data collection capacities.
