About The Position

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing coordination activities related to patient scheduling and performing tasks and support functions under the supervision of a licensed nurse. The Mercy Center for Memory Health coordinates scheduling for needed areas, calls in staff for emergency cases, refers conflicts and procedural questions to Administrator/Nursing Supervisors, responds to real/potential problems based on urgency related to patient needs, reviews and updates visiting clinician schedules, and utilizes the computer system to run requested reports.

Requirements

  • Two years of health care and/or secretarial experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills required
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required as specified per department guidelines

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Medical Assisting Diploma, Associate of Applied Science Degree preferred
  • Medical Terminology strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Receives and handles telephone communications accurately and timely
  • Coordinates scheduling patients
  • Completes data entry from procedural records in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Implements changes and assists with revisions on patient orders and requests
  • Organizes and prioritizes daily work effectively
  • Receives and directs visitors within the department as indicated
  • Navigates the electronic medical record efficiently, orders procedures and locates documentation as necessary
  • Promotes a positive and professional image, collaborates with healthcare team including physicians, nurses and discharge planners
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries
  • Coordinates scheduling for needed areas
  • Calls in staff for emergency cases as indicated
  • Refers conflicts and procedural questions to Administrator/Nursing Supervisors
  • Responds to real/potential problems based on urgency related to patient needs
  • Reviews and updates visiting clinician schedules
  • Utilizes computer system to run requested reports
