About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Scheduler for the Public Transportation Department. This role is crucial for matching trip requests to routes, ensuring timely pick-ups and arrivals, and optimizing schedules using specialized software. The Scheduler will also handle data entry, track trip statuses, and act as a liaison between the department and service contractors. This position requires extensive knowledge of the Fort Bend County service area and transit operations, as well as the ability to analyze reports, assist with service plan updates, and troubleshoot system issues. The role may also involve assisting with reservations and potentially acting as a driver in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 3 years job related experience.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong math and/or accounting skills.
  • Management and supervisory skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.

Responsibilities

  • Matches trip requests to a route and ensures timely pick-up from origin or arrival destination.
  • Researches and analyzes scheduled trip requests using the scheduling software.
  • Researches and corrects schedule violations, incorrect vehicle capacities, and trips requested outside of the defined service area.
  • Continuously monitors future days scheduling to ensure optimal schedules.
  • Prepares daily driver manifests and forwards to service contractor.
  • Ensures the scheduling process and on-time performance goals are adequate to allow for timely performance.
  • Inputs passenger data, changes and cancellations.
  • Tracks “delivered” and “no show” trips in database.
  • Maintains, updates, and manages routing activities.
  • Accesses and analyzes operations reports and makes recommendations.
  • Analyzes and monitors effectiveness of new implemented routes.
  • Assists with service plan updates.
  • Acts as liaison between department and service contractors.
  • Works with contractor to ensure smooth delivery of services and improve the routing process.
  • Interacts with internal ITS staff and assists with managing system hardware, software, and troubleshooting system errors, correcting issues or arranging for repairs.
  • Researches, develops and prepares reports using system data.
  • Gathers appropriate data and documentation for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and/or budgets, audits, and reviews by County, State and Federal agencies.
  • May act as driver, assisting passengers loading and unloading, and must obey all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Assists with taking reservations as necessary.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
