About The Position

The Scheduler/Insurance Specialist is responsible for multiple facets of patient financial account services within the practice, including patient benefit assessment, insurance verification, pre-certification, pre-authorizations, pre-determination for services, and referral management. This individual coordinates all aspects of surgery scheduling, schedules appointments for patients requiring surgery, and revises or cancels appointments as necessary. The role acts as an interdepartmental liaison and maintains familiarity with scheduling functions. Duties and responsibilities are performed in a manner consistent with Mercy’s mission, values, and Service Standards.

This position is with Mercy Clinic Gastroenterology at 10012 Kennerly Road, Suite 102, St. Louis, MO 63128. It is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with a schedule of either 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience as a surgery scheduler.
• Epic experience required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Computer skills.
• Telephone etiquette.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient benefits.
• Verify insurance.
• Handle pre-certification, pre-authorizations, and pre-determinations for services.
• Manage referrals.
• Coordinate all aspects of surgery scheduling.
• Schedule appointments for patients requiring surgery and revise or cancel appointments as necessary.
