About The Position

The Plymouth, NC lumber manufacturing facility is looking for a skilled Log Scaler. The primary function of a Log Scaler is to safely inspect every load, count the number of stems, inspect logs for specified defects, determine the average length, input the information accurately and efficiently process the loads through the scales.

Requirements

  • Ability to safely perform all assigned job duties and follow all safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to intervene with drivers regarding safety behaviors if needed.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Highly motivated self-starter who performs well in a team environment, providing a high degree of customer service.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities and take pride in accuracy and quality of work.
  • Able to perform basic math and computer operations.
  • Able to work any shift schedule and weekends/holidays.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat/or cold/ or wet conditions in an outdoor environment
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position which include fast paced walking, high volume truck load inspections (includes walking front to back of loads), navigating outdoor walkways and surfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Raw Materials and/or Lumber operations
  • Experienced in operating heavy equipment (forklift, knuckle boom, hydraulic load, cranes)
  • Prior experience working with truck drivers
  • Experience in inspection, inventory controls and operations of truck scales.
  • Experience as a log scaler

Responsibilities

  • Walk in and about logs and view each load to scale
  • Operate computerized scale to measure load tonnage and input data accurately
  • Communicate with log truck drivers to identify unloading areas
  • Visually check loads of logs for specification accuracy along with stem count
  • Complete and maintain paperwork and reports indicating loads delivered by contractors, weight per truck, and running inventory of daily receipts
  • Record and communicate any load errors for correction
  • Handle raw material loads going out over iPad to insure we have accurate weight, truck/trailer number and material.
  • Assist with Month end inv with Supervisor
  • Conduct physical inventories
  • Process manual tickets
  • Routinely use Microsoft Office applications, Weighwiz and SAP
  • Ensure flatbeds weights are under 80000 before leaving plant site
  • Ensure every contractor has gone through safety mandated training and has or Plymouth lumber sticker on hardhat
