About The Position

Hood Industries, Inc. is seeking a Deckperson Scaler for their Beaumont, MS plywood facility. This role primarily supports the Lathe Operator in the operation and maintenance of the lathe, which is crucial for manufacturing veneer for plywood. The position requires working with minimal supervision in a safe and productive manner, adhering to all company policies and safety guidelines.

Requirements

Work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Work in a hot, cold, noisy, industrial environment.
Pull and lift at least 50 lbs.
Perform tasks such as lifting, kneeling, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours per day.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED.
Experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience working with wood products.
Experience operating mobile equipment.
Strong understanding of the lathe.

Responsibilities

Assist the lathe operator in ensuring the lathe is in proper operating condition/setup to properly process logs for the next step in the process to manufacture veneer for plywood manufacturing.
Operate the lathe in the absence of the Lathe operator and correct any upset conditions during the process.
Monitor the lathe throughout the operations to ensure continuous operation and detect any potential issues.
Assist the Lathe Operator with changing lathe knives as needed.
Communicate with maintenance concerning any operational issues.
Use an assortment of hand tools to complete daily clean-up duties, such as air hoses, shovels, etc.
Work with minimal supervision, in a safe and productive manner.
Follow written and oral instructions.
Adhere to all safety, health, and company policies, procedures, and guidelines, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
Perform other duties as assigned.
