About The Position

As a Machine Operator team member at Smithfield Foods, you will perform production tasks and support coworkers to help deliver safe, high-quality food. The role contributes to a safe and efficient production line and requires reliability, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic. Machine Operators use meat cutting and packaging machines and other equipment to process meat products for consumers. The positions require technical knowledge of computerized equipment and are physically demanding, with good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail. Employees must work their scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime depending on production demands. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Must have good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
• Must be willing and able to work the scheduled shift; overtime may be required depending on production demands.
• Must be able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
• Must be able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
• Must be able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
• Must be able to work with a knife if trained.
• Must be able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees, and in wet and humid conditions.
• Must be able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes, and work in a noisy environment using personal protective equipment.
• Must be able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals and around strong odors.
• Must be able to climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms; bend, stoop, and twist repetitively; and walk long distances.
• May require certification to operate equipment used for the position.
• Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 pounds, single lifting of objects up to 60 pounds, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
