About The Position

Midwest Salt is seeking an Operations & Logistics Coordinator for their Chicago-area terminal, Grit One. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in scale operations, shipping and receiving, who are looking to advance their careers. The position offers hands-on training in SAP Business One and exposure to accounts receivable and payable functions. The Scale House Operator will manage incoming and outgoing truck and vessel traffic, ensure on-site inventory accuracy, process Bills of Lading, input Purchase Orders, and act as the primary point of contact for site visitors. This is a high-visibility role where attention to detail and customer service are crucial to the company's image.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in scale operations, shipping and receiving, logistics coordination, or a similar operations role
  • Strong data entry skills with high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Comfortable learning enterprise systems
  • Basic understanding of accounts receivable and/or accounts payable processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, on-site industrial/port environment
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • SAP experience is a plus
  • Associate degree or some college preferred
  • Experience with SAP or a similar ERP (NetSuite, Epicor, or Infor)
  • Background in bulk material distribution—salt, aggregates, grain, or similar commodity industries
  • Maritime, port, or freight terminal experience
  • Existing TWIC
  • Working knowledge of Bills of Lading (BOLs) and shipping documentation

Responsibilities

  • Operate facility scales accurately and in compliance with all company procedures using SAP & scale system
  • Communicate daily incoming and outgoing traffic flow for trucks, vendors, vessel crew, and site visitors
  • Process inbound & outbound Bills of Lading (BOLs) and Bill of Material in SAP
  • Perform site-level reporting and serve as the frontline communications liaison for Grit One
  • Assist with on-site Operations functions as coverage needs require
  • Deliver an exceptional “Wow” experience for every visitor—truck drivers, customers, vendors, vessel crew, and third-party service teams
  • Be the professional, knowledgeable face of Midwest Salt at the terminal level
  • Identify service gaps and recommend process improvements to your LMA
  • Own the accuracy of on-site inventory using SAP
  • Coordinate product loading and shipping on a first-in, first-out (FIFO) basis to protect product integrity
  • Conduct cycle counts, reconcile discrepancies, and maintain audit-ready records
  • Assist with site-level AR functions: invoice verification, payment documentation, and customer account follow-up
  • Support AP workflows including Purchase Order creation, vendor invoice matching, coding, and processing in coordination with the accounting team
  • Maintain accurate financial records for site operations
  • Learn and use SAP for inventory transactions, receiving, shipping confirmations, and financial support
  • Ensure all system data is accurate, timely, and consistent with company procedures
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA procedures; model safe behaviors for all site visitors and personnel
  • Complete all assigned learning paths and apply knowledge to daily work
  • Actively contribute ideas to improve processes, service, and operational efficiency
