About The Position

Lee County is seeking a reliable and customer-focused Scale House Attendant to join our Solid Waste Division at the Waste-to-Energy Facility. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for customers and drivers arriving at the facility. You will record vehicle weights, complete load screenings, monitor safety equipment, and help direct traffic flow through the scales. Your work ensures safe, accurate, and efficient operations every day. This position is ideal for someone who is organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys providing helpful customer service while handling detailed tasks.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of fast-paced, professional customer service or similar experience
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions during daily operations
  • Basic computer skills, including Word, Outlook, and scale software
  • Comfort working around large vehicles and outdoor conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience handling cash or performing reconciliation
  • Familiarity with waste industry operations or scale systems
  • Ability to stay organized, multitask, and maintain accuracy in a busy environment
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new procedures

Responsibilities

  • Operate the computerized scale system and weigh vehicles entering and leaving the facility
  • Record and maintain accurate tare weights and load information
  • Greet customers, answer questions, and guide them through the scale process
  • Perform initial load screenings and monitor radiation detection equipment
  • Determine charges based on load size and weight; collect and reconcile cash payments
  • Prepare tickets, receipts, deposits, and daily cash reports
  • Direct vehicle traffic across three scales and a bypass lane to ensure safe flow
  • Open and close the scale house and perform routine inspections
  • Keep scale house and surrounding area clean, organized, and safe
  • Assist with creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Support Solid Waste staff by compiling records for regulatory or reporting needs
  • Perform preventive checks on the scale and scale system and report issues
  • Maintain inventory of scale house supplies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
