About The Position

The Scale Clerk is responsible for managing inbound and outbound truck traffic at the facility scale while providing exceptional customer service to drivers, farmers, vendors, and customers. This position ensures accurate weighing, recording, and processing of agricultural commodities and finished products, maintains compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and supports the safe and efficient movement of trucks throughout the facility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong computer and data entry skills.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating computer systems.
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Able to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via radio systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with agricultural commodities including grain, feed ingredients, livestock feed, or oilseed products.
  • 1–2 years of scale clerk experience.
  • Knowledge of trucking, transportation, DOT regulations, and commodity handling procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately weigh all inbound and outbound trucks using certified scales and supporting software systems.
  • Provide professional, courteous, and timely service to truck drivers, customers, farmers, and vendors.
  • Enter and maintain accurate records of commodity deliveries, shipments, customer profiles, and contract information.
  • Verify load numbers, destinations, and shipment details prior to allowing trucks to enter or exit the facility.
  • Issue scale tickets, receipts, and shipping documentation accurately and efficiently.
  • Monitor truck weights to identify overweight loads and coordinate corrective actions before trucks leave the facility.
  • Perform manual weighing and ticket generation when necessary.
  • Collect and document payments for cash sales or COD contracts when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records for auditing, inventory, and reporting purposes.
  • Assist with general administrative and clerical duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate with operations, grain handling, warehouse, and logistics personnel to ensure efficient truck flow throughout the facility.
  • Assist in troubleshooting scale system issues and reporting equipment malfunctions.
  • Support inventory tracking and commodity movement reporting as needed.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, food safety requirements, and company operating procedures.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions and operational concerns.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional scale house environment.
