About The Position

A Scaffold Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the planning, estimating, erection, and dismantling of scaffolding on construction sites, ensuring safety and project timelines are met. Key responsibilities include supervising crews, conducting safety inspections, managing materials and equipment, coordinating with other trades, and ensuring work adheres to all standards and regulations. This leadership role requires strong organizational, technical, and safety management skills.

Requirements

  • Must have 8+ years of Scaffolding experience on offshore or land/plant/refinery jobs.
  • Must have 5+ years of Scaffold Supervisor experience on offshore or land/plant/refinery jobs.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Must have valid TWIC card.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart L Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with clients regarding scaffold-related work and project needs.
  • Perform behavior-based safety observations to promote safe work practices.
  • Lead the scaffold crew and report directly to the MISTRAS’ Scaffold Operations Managers or Scaffold Project Manager.
  • Provide onsite supervision and handle required documentation such as signoffs, work permits, pickup tickets, JSEAs, and safety plans.
  • Work hands-on with tools when requested by the Scaffold Operations Manager or Project Manager.
  • Oversee and control scaffold material inventories for each project site.
  • Coordinate the timely delivery and return of scaffold materials to support erection and dismantling activities.
  • Conduct site job walks with clients and internal stakeholders to assess project scope, access requirements, and potential risks.
  • Develop and/or support scaffold estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and duration, based on field conditions and project specifications.
  • Provide constructability input and recommend efficient scaffold designs during pre-job planning and bidding phases.
  • Identify scope changes during execution and communicate impacts to operations and project management teams to support change management and cost control.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Scaffold Operations Manager or Project Manager.
  • Direct and support teams in erecting and dismantling various access systems, including but not limited to system scaffolding (e.g., Pinlock) and tube-and-clamp scaffolds.
  • Conduct daily scaffold inspections as the Competent Person, verify material condition, and perform minor equipment maintenance to ensure safe use.
  • Work at elevated heights that may exceed 200’, as well as in tight or restricted areas.
  • Perform tasks in areas located above open water for offshore assignments.
  • Support construction teams with a range of duties, including but not limited to: Rigging loads and assisting with general construction activities; Assisting crane operators with equipment and material movement on the platform; Coordinating crane operations to move materials to work areas, including proper rigging with slings, cables, and related gear; Working at elevated heights that may exceed 200’ and operating within restrictive areas.
