About The Position

This position will report to the Communications Tech Lead and support WaterBridge's Delaware Basin Operations in West Texas / New Mexico. The Communications Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and testing of communications and video equipment supporting real-time monitoring and control of produced water infrastructure across the Delaware Basin. This includes a wide-area network built on licensed microwave backhaul links, 200-foot communications towers, and dozens of access point locations serving thousands of subscriber modules. This individual must be able to install, maintain, and repair RF and networking equipment, perform tower climbing and work at heights up to 200 feet, and take an active role in the planning, design, and deployment of new communications infrastructure as the operation continues to grow.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • 4+ years of experience/training on applicable telemetry, RF, or communications equipment required.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently install, repair, and maintain communications equipment including placement of video cameras, antennas, cellular modems, and serial and Ethernet radios.
  • Ability to independently install and maintain networking platforms such as managed switches and routers; implement changes to IPv4, Point-to-Point Protocol, and VLANs.
  • Proficiency in RF spectrum analysis; able to identify interference sources and recommend corrective communications solutions.
  • Knowledge of SCADA network architecture and various SCADA protocols (Modbus, DNP3, etc.).
  • Knowledge of WAN, LAN, and radio communications principles.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic principles and associated safety requirements.
  • Able to use various tools and software to perform analysis and resolve communications equipment issues.
  • Ability to create BOM/material acquisitions and assist in the quoting process.
  • Experience using computers; basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and advanced Excel skills required.
  • Must demonstrate advanced organizational skills and the ability to apply common-sense understanding to daily tasks and issues.
  • Work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Must be able to relate to other people and maintain good relationships with coworkers and peers.
  • Must be able to respond appropriately to constructive criticism.
  • A valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record is required.
  • Available for call-outs, emergencies, or shutdowns.
  • Must be capable of passing a pre-employment background screen and drug test.
  • Eligible to work in the United States indefinitely.
  • Live in Pecos, TX, or within a 65-mile radius from Pecos, TX required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in electronics, telecommunications, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cambium Networks equipment and software (PMP, PTP, ePMP, cnMaestro) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with licensed microwave backhaul systems, including path studies, link budget analysis, antenna alignment, and FCC licensing processes preferred.
  • Knowledge of mapping software preferred.
  • Tower climbing certification preferred or required prior to solo climbing.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and troubleshooting licensed microwave backhaul links, including path alignment, and antenna pointing.
  • Operating and managing Cambium Networks equipment and software, including PMP and PTP series radios, ePMP access points, and cnMaestro network management platform, across dozens of AP locations and thousands of subscriber modules.
  • Performing installation, commissioning, and preventative maintenance of communications equipment on 200-foot towers, including climbing and working at heights as required.
  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining RF and low-voltage radios, antenna systems, tower infrastructure, serial and Ethernet radios, and cellular modems.
  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining network platforms including managed switches and routers; implementing changes to IPv4 and Point-to-Point Protocol configurations.
  • Installing and maintaining IP video camera systems at facilities and tower locations, including field of view configuration and integration with SCADA/monitoring platforms.
  • Troubleshooting network outages, RF interference, and subscriber connectivity issues across the WAN/LAN infrastructure.
  • Coordinating and performing maintenance duties required to maintain communications operations and regulatory compliance.
  • Reading and understanding equipment manuals, FCC license documents, path study reports, and RF link budgets for equipment specifications, parts, and procedures.
  • Maintaining an effective Preventative Maintenance program for all communications equipment and tower infrastructure.
  • Ensuring accurate, timely data is entered and recorded within computer-based preventative and predictive maintenance programs, drawings, procedures, and schematics.
  • Training team members and operators on the operation of communications equipment and network systems.
  • Attending required safety meetings, holding tailgate safety meetings, and writing JSAs; promoting a safe work environment for personal safety and the safety of co-workers.
  • Providing forthright communication with senior leadership regarding job progress, issues and resolutions, required manpower and equipment, etc.
  • Maintaining effective communications, providing ideas, raising concerns, and working with other functions including facility operations and supervision, engineering, supply chain, other I&E employees, clerical staff, and contractors.
  • Coordinating operations with other Delaware Basin personnel as required.
  • Staying abreast of changing technology through training opportunities, contact with suppliers and representatives of equipment manufacturers, and networking with others in the field.
