About The Position

The selected candidate will construct components, sub-units, or simple models, or adapt standard equipment. They will follow specific layouts and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and sub-units of equipment. The role involves conducting various tests or experiments, which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures, as well as subjective judgments in measurement. This includes selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and recording test data. The technician will also extract and compile engineering data from various sources, process it, identify errors, and select methods for data presentation. Additionally, they will assist in design modification by compiling relevant data and using judgment to identify and resolve inconsistencies or gaps in information. The position involves performing recurring work independently after receiving initial instructions and advice from a supervisor or engineer. Work will be reviewed for technical adequacy and conformity with instructions. The hourly rate is set by the Dept of Labor at $28.79/hr and is not negotiable. This position is located in St. Mary's County, Maryland.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and at least five years of related experience
  • Strong Mechanical or Electrical background
  • Ability to use various power tools including drills, drill presses, band saws, equipment to pull cable, an assortment of wire cutters and strippers, soldering irons, high-pressure tools, voltage meters, ampmeters and ohmmeter
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings/blue prints and perform work to specifications
  • Ability and willingness to be train entry level technicians
  • Must be able to maintain a Secret Clearance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)

Nice To Haves

  • Strong Mechanical or Electrical background
  • Experience with the installation of equipment and cables into electrical cabinets

Responsibilities

  • Constructs components, sub-units, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions
  • Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and sub-units of equipment
  • Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and recording test data
  • Extracts and compiles a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation
  • Assists in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; develops information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and uses judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information
