About The Position

The SBA Business Development Officer will be responsible for soliciting new SBA business from present and prospective clients, establishing strong referral networks, and analyzing, originating, and structuring SBA loan requests. This role involves educating borrowers on the SBA process, coordinating with various departments to ensure loan closings comply with regulations, and staying current on SBA policies and procedures. The officer will also refer conventional lending opportunities and participate in community activities to promote the SBA Program and Valley National Bank.

Requirements

  • Thorough working knowledge of the commercial lending process, credit analysis, management of loan portfolios and all related laws and regulations
  • Develop and maintain intimate knowledge of the SBA SOP and subsequent changes.
  • Ability to sell and negotiate.
  • Ability to meet sales goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong financial/business acumen.
  • Proficient in Windows software, including Word, Excel, Outlook as well as sales and tracking software such as Salesforce.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years SBA or commercial lending experience.

Responsibilities

  • Solicit new SBA business from present and prospective clients.
  • Conduct calls and other marketing efforts focused on prospects, clients, internal referral sources, and external referral sources.
  • Establish strong referral network and relationships with internal partners as well as commercial real estate agents, brokers, CPA's, accountants, attorneys, and other Centers of Influence (COI's).
  • Call on potential SBA customers with business partners.
  • Educate the borrower on SBA process, structure, and set expectations.
  • Analyze, determine eligibility, originate, and structure SBA loan requests.
  • Submit complete documentation packages to the credit and packaging departments.
  • Assist in the credit analysis and underwriting process.
  • Attend business partner meetings, to develop strong relationships with internal partners and to discuss SBA Lending and possible SBA prospects.
  • Coordinate with lenders, SBA Administration, Loan assistant/closer, and closing attorney to insure loan closings are in compliance with bank policy, banking regulations, and SBA SOP.
  • Stay actively involved in NAGGL and other forms of SBA training in order to be current on policies and procedure.
  • Develop and maintain intimate knowledge of the SBA SOP and subsequent changes.
  • Refer conventional lending opportunities, treasury solutions, insurance, residential mortgage, and deposit relationships to bank partners.
  • Participate in civic and community activities to promote the SBA Program and Valley National Bank.
