The Saw Operator is responsible for accurately cutting raw materials to specified dimensions in support of the company's custom sheet metal fabrication operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring materials are prepared safely, efficiently, and accurately to meet production schedules and quality standards. The Saw Operator is responsible for interpreting work orders, operating saw equipment safely, verifying material specifications, maintaining equipment, and supporting a clean and organized work environment. Success in this role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Ability to read work orders, cut lists, and simple blueprints.
  • Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, and tape measure proficiency.
  • Ability to accurately use measuring devices including: Tape measures, Calipers, Squares, Protractors.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience operating industrial saw equipment in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication or custom manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate horizontal, vertical, cold saw, or band saw equipment to cut raw materials according to work orders and engineering specifications.
  • Verify material type, thickness, grade, and dimensions before cutting.
  • Measure and mark materials accurately using appropriate measuring tools.
  • Produce precise cuts that meet dimensional tolerances and quality standards.
  • Identify material defects and notify supervision when discrepancies are found.
  • Properly label and stage completed materials for downstream production processes.
