About The Position

The Saw Operator is responsible for operating air- and hydraulic-table saws to cut extruded metal to the required lengths per work tickets. This position requires attention to detail, quality inspection, and the ability to maintain pace with the extrusion press while ensuring proper material handling.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate air and hydraulic table saws to cut extruded metal according to specifications
  • Ability to read and interpret work tickets and shop papers
  • Proficiency in using tape measures and checking measurements
  • Basic writing and math skills for completing daily production records
  • Basic verbal communication skills for understanding work assignments and reporting issues
  • Good motor skills and hand-eye coordination for efficient and safe operation
  • Ability to stand for 10-12 hours per shift
  • Ability to lift between 50 and 100 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience in manufacturing or metal fabrication is helpful but not required.
  • On-the-job training will be provided

Responsibilities

  • Operate saws (Oliver, chop, and table saws) safely and efficiently to keep pace with the extrusion press.
  • Cut material accurately to the specified lengths per work ticket requirements.
  • Inspect extruded metal for flaws and cut out defective sections
  • Record the number of pieces cut on saw tickets and maintain separate records for reference
  • Stack material on aging carts with minimal damage to the finished product
  • Check metal for proper length, hole spacing, carpet barbs, and hammering patterns to ensure quality specifications are met
  • Assist with loading dummy blocks in the extrusion press as needed
  • Process scrap material for recycling and load it onto the scrap trailer
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area
  • Perform other duties of equal or lesser complexity as assigned
