About The Position

The Saw Operator is responsible for operating Coastline’s industrial bandsaw equipment to cut and process steel materials for production kits. This position plays a critical role in preparing accurate steel components used in fabrication and assembly, including channel, pipe, I-beam, and other structural materials. Accuracy is extremely important in this role. The Saw Operator must be able to read a tape measure, understand cut requirements, operate the bandsaw safely, and ensure materials are cut to the correct size and specification.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate an industrial bandsaw.
  • Basic understanding of steel materials such as channel, pipe, I-beam, angle, tubing, and flat bar.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, cut lists, and basic drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform basic math, including fractions and measurements.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to follow instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience operating a bandsaw or similar cutting equipment.
  • Previous experience in a steel fabrication, welding, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience reading fabrication drawings or blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Operate industrial bandsaw equipment to cut steel materials according to job requirements.
  • Process steel kits that may include channel, pipe, I-beam, tubing, angle, flat bar, and other materials.
  • Read and interpret cut lists, work orders, drawings, and job specifications.
  • Measure materials accurately using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools.
  • Set up saw equipment for proper cuts, angles, lengths, and material types.
  • Verify material type, size, length, and quantity before cutting.
  • Inspect finished cuts for accuracy, squareness, burrs, and overall quality.
  • Organize completed parts into proper kits for downstream production.
  • Identify and report incorrect material, drawing issues, shortages, or quality concerns.
  • Maintain an efficient workflow to support production schedules.
  • Operate the bandsaw safely and follow all company safety procedures.
  • Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves when appropriate, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
