About The Position

The Saw Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating metal cutting saws to cut raw materials according to production specifications and customer requirements. This role supports manufacturing operations by ensuring material accuracy, maintaining quality standards, and contributing to a safe and productive work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating saws or related machinery in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment preferred.
  • Experience working with metal products, raw materials, and production processes is preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate metal cutting saws and related production equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work orders, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with measuring devices including tape measures, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, decimals, and measurement conversions.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing safety practices and quality control procedures.
  • Ability to identify defects and maintain attention to detail.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills preferred.

  • While performing the duties of this position in a metal manufacturing environment, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers to handle, operate, or feel materials and tools, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively by talking and listening.
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift materials, climb, and maintain balance while performing production tasks.
  • Frequent walking, bending, lifting, and reaching are required throughout the work shift in a production setting.
  • Must be able to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • This role requires specific visual abilities, including close vision, to ensure accuracy and quality in metal fabrication and inspection tasks.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, and other PPE as required.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, metal shavings, and occasional sharp objects.
  • The employee may occasionally be exposed to risks of electrical shock.
  • Work environment may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, metal burrs and chips, and potential chemical irritants such as water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, degreasing agents, and mineral spirits.
  • The employee may occasionally be exposed to extreme cold or heat conditions.
  • Noise levels in the work environment are typically loud, requiring appropriate hearing protection.
  • Exposure to hazardous equipment may occur on a weekly basis, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols.
  • This position may include access to information that is subject to U.S. export controls. Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with documented procedures and work instructions.
  • Operate band saws, circular saws, and other cutting equipment to process metal materials according to work orders and specifications.
  • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, drawings, and production schedules to determine cutting requirements.
  • Measure and verify material dimensions using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment.
  • Set up and adjust saw equipment, including blade changes, feed rates, and cutting parameters.
  • Inspect raw materials and finished cuts to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain accurate production records, material usage logs, and job documentation.
  • Safely move, load, and unload metal materials using cranes, hoists, forklifts, or other material handling equipment as authorized and trained.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions, quality concerns, safety hazards, and production issues to supervision.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, cleaning, and housekeeping activities to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Follow all quality management system (QMS) requirements, policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in training as required.
  • Assist other production departments as needed to meet customer and business requirements.
