About The Position

Alta Forest Products, in partnership with Itochu Building Products, is a leading producer of wood fence boards, specializing in Western Red Cedar and other premium species. They also produce by-products like wood chips, sawdust, mulch, and biofuel. Headquartered in Chehalis, Washington, Alta operates in multiple Northwest rural communities. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and changing saws for the mill.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience with saw filing
• Strong commitment to safety values and expertise with LOTO
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability and willingness to join and maintain good standing in the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters (required).
• Candidates will be subject to comprehensive pre-employment drug screening, inclusive of marijuana (THC).

Nice To Haves

• Preferred knowledge of fitting and benching both bandsaws and round saws

Responsibilities

• Bench and fit of both band saws and round saws
• Maintain Micarta and Babbitt guides
• Maintain filing equipment
• Sharpen chipper knives
• Perform machine center alignments on saws
• Transport saws
• Change saws at machine centers
• Discard and/or repair damaged saws
• Other duties as assigned
