About The Position
Weyerhaeuser's Greenville Lumber Mill in Grifton, NC, has an opening for a Saw Filer with industrial experience. This position operates on a rotating schedule, with employees alternating between one week of day shifts and one week of night shifts. Day shift hours are 5:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and night shift hours are 5:30 PM to 4:30 AM. Candidates must be flexible and available to work both shifts. All candidates must be safety-conscious, self-motivated, possess strong communication skills, have experience working collaboratively with multiple crafts and departments, and thrive in a team-oriented, market-focused environment. Candidates selected for this position will bench and grind band saws, hammer and sharpen carbide saws, troubleshoot and maintain filing equipment, and align sawmill equipment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Mechanical background and aptitude
- Experienced with sawmill mechanics, saw change-outs, Bandmill alignment. Such as crossline between guides and wheels.
- Two years of working experience as a band saw filer and/or two years of precision Millwright experience.
- Knowledge of using precise measuring equipment, i.e., micrometers and dial indicators, etc.
- Good communication skills
- Willingness to work rotating shift schedules, weekends, and holidays as necessary
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and dependability
- Self-motivated and able to follow instructions precisely
- Be able to read, write and follow specific printed directions
- Ability to troubleshoot lumber for quality and size control
- Understanding of machine alignment procedures
- Resume detailing education and work history required for consideration
- Must be able to pass a computer base skilled test
Responsibilities
- Participate in safety meetings and activities as determined by team and mill norms and standards
- Benching and fitting bandsaws
- Sharpening, tipping and benching round saws
- Honing and maintaining knives
- Pour babbit, maintenance of guides and maintaining guide plane
- Complete PMs for sawmill and saw shop machinery as required
- Participate in reliability task teams or activities as required
- Help coach apprentices/operators to learn saw filing trade and help with PMs
