This position performs satellite Command and Control (C2) of the Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) systems for the 10th Space Operations Squadron (10 SOPS). The Satellite Operator is responsible for real-time interactive spacecraft commanding and data capture activities for assigned satellite contacts, configuring ground equipment before satellite contacts, and responding to ground system alarms. The Satellite Operator will report directly to the Operations Lead through the assigned Shift Lead while on shift duties in the Satellite Operations Center (SOC). The Satellite Operator also documents operational events during the shift and informs the Satellite Operations Center Watch Captain (SWC) of any alarms. The SOC is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including weekends and holidays, and the Satellite Operator will support rotating 8-hour shifts.

Requirements

  • Experience with military Satellite Operations
  • Experienced in Command and Control of a Satellite Constellation
  • Must be able to relocate to 10 SOPS Pt. Mugu CA to attend/complete Legacy systems and Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) training; complete Satellite Operator Master Task Lists (MTL)
  • Attend and pass the Satellite Operator Qualification Board; with assignment to 10 SOPS Point Mugu CA
  • Secret Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Telemetry, Tracking, and Commanding (TT&C) functions for assigned satellites
  • Perform activities that directly interact with the spacecraft and the ground network during real-time support
  • Perform Mission Planning and Scheduling activities to ensure satellite contacts are met
  • Monitor tactical spacecraft performance and detect anomalies
  • Monitor payload performance including science instruments and any instrument support subsystems during real-time operations
  • Ensure ground systems network assets are available, functioning and configured to support mission requirements
  • Record mission anomalies and prepare reports to inform 10 SOPS management of current readiness of the ground system and all on-orbit system
