About The Position

Top Score Education is seeking part-time or full-time in-home SAT/ACT tutors in the Washington, DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia area. This role involves providing personalized 1-on-1 tutoring to students in grades 6-12, focusing on SAT and ACT preparation. The position offers flexible scheduling with sessions typically held after school on weekdays (4-10 PM) and on weekends. Top Score Education, founded in 2004, is a premier boutique tutoring and test prep company specializing in academic subjects and standardized tests, with a mission to foster Deep Learning Through Deep Relationships.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience tutoring the SAT and/or ACT.
• A 95th percentile or higher SAT/ACT score.
• Passionate about building positive, supportive relationships with students and families.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong time management and process adherence.
• Excellent communicator, responsive, and committed to collaborative teamwork.
• Flexible availability for evenings (4-10 PM weekdays) and weekends.
• Minimum commitment of 8 teaching hours per week (e.g., 1-2 weekday evenings and one weekend day).
• Reliable access to a car and willingness to travel up to 30 minutes for in-home sessions.
• Ability to pass a background check (required for working with students).
• Medium to long-term commitment: 2 years minimum.

Responsibilities

• Deliver 120-minute private, in-home SAT/ACT tutoring sessions to students in the DC metro area.
• Create customized lesson plans to address individual student needs and learning goals.
• Maintain consistent, positive communication with parents and students to build trust and rapport.
• Collaborate with the Top Score team to track student progress and refine tutoring strategies.
• Complete 50-60 hours of paid training to ensure you have the best tools and strategies for success.
