SAP Solution Architect

Valvoline Global
•$145,000 - $160,000

About The Position

The SAP Solution Architect partners with business and technology leaders across SAP-enabled functions—primarily Finance and Supply Chain, with additional support for HR and other enterprise capabilities—to shape scalable, secure, integrated, and sustainable business solutions. The role leads architecture for initiatives where SAP is a significant part of the solution, translating business capabilities, requirements, and strategic priorities into end-to-end architectures across SAP S/4HANA, the broader SAP ecosystem, enterprise applications, integration platforms, data services, and other technologies. The architect is accountable for the overall solution architecture, not only its SAP components. This includes determining appropriate system boundaries and responsibilities, deciding where business logic and capabilities should reside, defining how systems interact and information flows, and considering how solutions should evolve. The role promotes appropriate use of SAP while avoiding unnecessary customization, duplication, and coupling when another approach better serves the enterprise. Working within the Enterprise Architecture practice and alongside delivery teams, functional leaders, Product Owners, SAP teams, and other architects, the SAP Solution Architect provides architectural clarity from discovery through implementation. The position guides solution design and alignment with business objectives and enterprise architecture principles, but does not own project management, functional configuration, software development, or people leadership. Evening and weekend availability may be required for escalations, projects, major deployments, or other business initiatives. Travel is up to 30%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience designing, implementing, or supporting complex enterprise technology solutions.
  • Significant experience working with SAP solutions in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing solutions spanning multiple applications, business functions, integration technologies, and data domains.
  • Experience working with Finance and/or Supply Chain business processes and technology ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of SAP S/4HANA architecture and the broader SAP technology ecosystem.
  • Strong understanding of core enterprise processes supported by SAP, particularly Finance and Supply Chain.
  • Working knowledge of SAP integration, extensibility, security, master data, analytics, and application lifecycle concepts.
  • Understanding of SAP clean-core principles and modern approaches to SAP extensibility.
  • Ability to evaluate SAP capabilities within a heterogeneous enterprise application landscape and understand ERP integration with CRM, manufacturing, supply chain, data, analytics, SaaS, and other platforms.
  • Strong understanding of solution architecture principles and end-to-end systems design.
  • Experience developing conceptual and logical architecture models, system interaction diagrams, integration architectures, and data flows.
  • Strong understanding of API-based, asynchronous/event-driven, and middleware integration patterns.
  • Understanding of data architecture concepts, including master data, systems of record, data ownership, synchronization, and governance.
  • Working knowledge of cloud architecture, identity and access management, cybersecurity, resiliency, and non-functional requirements.
  • Understanding of modern software delivery practices, DevOps, CI/CD, Agile delivery, and system development lifecycle methodologies.
  • Ability to assess technical debt, architectural risk, system coupling, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ability to produce clear architecture documentation for business stakeholders, engineers, project teams, and technology leadership.
  • Must be willing to be available for evening and weekend work when escalations, projects, major deployments, or other business initiatives require architectural support.
  • Travel up to 30%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA implementations, upgrades, migrations, transformations, or modernization initiatives.
  • Experience collaborating with globally distributed business and technology teams.
  • Familiarity with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) and relevant SAP cloud capabilities.
  • Familiarity with HR technology and SAP SuccessFactors.
  • Experience with enterprise integration platforms; MuleSoft experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Finance, Supply Chain, HR, and other business and technology leaders to understand business strategy, capabilities, requirements, challenges, and transformation priorities.
  • Translate business needs into architectural options and recommendations; facilitate solution-shaping workshops and communicate trade-offs, risks, dependencies, costs, and long-term implications.
  • Provide impact analysis for proposed process changes, capabilities, enhancements, acquisitions, integrations, and transformation initiatives.
  • Develop end-to-end solution architectures for initiatives involving SAP, defining system boundaries, responsibilities, systems of record and engagement, integration responsibilities, and placement of business logic.
  • Create and maintain architecture artifacts, including solution context diagrams, logical architectures, system interaction diagrams, data flows, architectural decisions, and design documentation.
  • Evaluate solution alternatives across SAP S/4HANA, SAP cloud services, SaaS platforms, custom applications, integration platforms, data platforms, and other technologies.
  • Ensure architecture decisions consider functional needs, scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, supportability, upgradeability, and lifecycle impact.
  • Promote SAP clean-core principles, standardization, upgradeability, appropriate extensibility, and long-term platform sustainability; challenge unnecessary custom development, tightly coupled integrations, duplicated logic, and technical debt.
  • Assess the implications of SAP releases, platform capabilities, modernization opportunities, and emerging SAP technologies; recommend simplification, remediation, or modernization where appropriate.
  • Remain engaged with delivery teams through implementation, providing architectural guidance during planning, backlog refinement, solution design, and major implementation decisions.
  • Review requirements and user stories as needed to identify architectural dependencies, risks, non-functional requirements, and design implications.
  • Collaborate with functional, technical, integration, data, security, infrastructure, and implementation-partner teams to resolve complex design decisions and cross-system issues.
  • Participate in design reviews and the Architecture Review Board; document significant decisions, risks, exceptions, and dependencies, and evaluate deviations from standards.
  • Validate that implemented solutions materially align with approved architecture and document significant changes made during delivery.
  • Align SAP-enabled solutions with enterprise strategies, standards, principles, and roadmaps; coordinate with Enterprise, Integration, Data, Security, Infrastructure, and other Solution Architects.
  • Promote API-first and appropriately decoupled integration patterns, including use of enterprise integration capabilities such as MuleSoft.
  • Account for security, identity, data governance, resiliency, observability, compliance, and supportability requirements in solution architectures.
  • Contribute to capability roadmaps, application rationalization, modernization strategies, technology lifecycle planning, and reusable architecture patterns.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $145,000–$160,000 plus a 15% bonus.
