About The Position

Sanitation Team Members are responsible for cleaning the facility and all egg grading equipment on a nightly basis while adhering to sanitation requirements for the safe and proper handling of food.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English and basic math skills.
  • Prior general experience working successfully on a team environment and independently.
  • Minimum of three months experience in a food manufacturing or sanitation environment required.
  • Must be able to communicate and work well with others as part of a team, demonstrating politeness, respect, and courtesy in communication and daily interactions.
  • Must be able to provide clear, concise general instructions for team effectiveness and productivity.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and keep pace in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work in compliance with divisional and legislative health, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
  • Report defect in any equipment or protective device.
  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.
  • Participate in all required health, safety and environmental training.
  • Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.
  • Assist in investigating accidents/incidents.
  • Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.
  • Inspect required PPE and replace if necessary
  • Put on all required PPE
  • Inspect machinery and mobile equipment for functionality and operational safety mechanisms
  • Practice proper lifting techniques
  • Take frequent breaks in accordance with company policy/procedures
  • Workers must not be impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other causes
  • Workers must be aware of first aid locations
  • Workers must be aware of fire extinguisher locations and operating procedures
  • Ensure equipment (PPE), machinery, and mobile equipment is fully disengaged, cleaned, stored, and maintained appropriately
  • If an emergency situation occurs while conducting this task, or there is an equipment malfunction, shut the equipment off immediately and follow the lock out procedure.

Nice To Haves

  • Grade 12 education preferred.
  • GHS (WHMIS 2015), HACCP and first aid training considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Clean as per written procedure and instructions, and at required frequencies for the following equipment: Catch pans, guards, cover plates, and trays; Inedible and garbage containers; Egg wash tanks; Loader and unloader machines; Tray and pallet washer tanks; Eggs inspector and orientator; Dryers; UV unit and blood detector; Packer machines and conveyors; Box conveyor; Shrink-wrap machine; Backet de-stacker; Pallet wrappers; Transfer conveyors and scales.
  • Operate industrial cleaning equipment.
  • Mix/handle cleaning chemical solutions.
  • Breakdown cardboard boxes and operate the garbage compactor machine, transporting trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Clean/sweep floors and drains.
  • Inform maintenance of, and document, any maintenance-related concerns.
  • Document all required cleaning according to company policies and procedures.
  • Attend all required training courses.
  • Inform supervisor of equipment wear or damage.
  • Inform supervisor of any conditions that could affect food safety.
  • Adhere to established HACCP, biosecurity, and health and safety procedures.
  • Complete all HACCP forms as required.
  • Assist co-workers where and when needed.
  • Live by the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of staff.
  • Other duties assigned by the Sanitation Supervisor.
