About The Position

The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and verifying sanitation program execution to ensure compliance with all regulatory, customer, and internal food safety requirements. This role provides oversight of third-party sanitation providers and internal sanitation execution through verification, documentation review, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a 3rd shift position and serves as a key liaison between Sanitation, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Maintenance, ensuring sanitation activities are effectively coordinated and executed without compromising food safety, equipment integrity, or production efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Prior experience in food manufacturing, sanitation, or food safety required
  • Experience working with or overseeing sanitation programs strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of GMPs, SSOPs, MSS, and sanitation best practices
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify non-conformances
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong cross-functional coordination and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear for parts, or most of the day.
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed. Work hours may vary and standard shifts may extend beyond 8 hours, flexibility is expected to meet the needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and verify sanitation operations, including third-party sanitation providers and internal sanitation support activities
  • Verify third-party sanitation provider performance against contractual scope, service expectations, and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Conduct routine sanitation verification activities, including pre-operational (pre-op) and post-sanitation inspections (including Master Sanitation Schedule Tasks).
  • Identify, document, and escalate sanitation deficiencies; ensure timely corrective actions are implemented and verified for effectiveness
  • Monitor sanitation workflows to ensure effective use of labor, materials, and equipment
  • Serve as the central point of coordination between Sanitation, Operations, Maintenance, and Quality Assurance for sanitation-related activities
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to align on scheduling for activities that may require additional disassembly, repair, greasing, or mechanical intervention following sanitation
  • Communicate scheduling priorities, conflicts, and risks to cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment and execution
  • Verify that sanitation activities are completed in a manner that supports and does not compromise subsequent maintenance requirements
  • Lead and/or verify facility-wide daily pre-operational inspections to ensure readiness for production
  • Maintain and continuously improve pre-op inspection forms to align with regulatory and audit requirements
  • Initiate and document corrective actions for pre-op failures, including coordination with sanitation, maintenance, and operations teams
  • Ensure pre-op records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready at all times
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), including detailed equipment disassembly and cleaning procedures
  • Review SSOPs routinely to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and alignment with current operations and regulatory expectations
  • Maintain ownership of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), including updates to task frequency, scope, and documentation requirements
  • Review sanitation execution against MSS requirements and ensure all tasks are completed as scheduled
  • Conduct ATP and allergen swabbing to verify sanitation effectiveness and document results
  • Trend and review ATP and environmental monitoring data to identify recurring issues and areas of risk
  • Ensure corrective actions, resampling, and escalation are conducted for failed results
  • Support environmental monitoring program (EMP) investigations and verify compliance with intensified cleaning protocols
  • Verify sanitation chemical inventory, ensuring proper storage, labeling, and segregation
  • Ensure compliance with chemical safety requirements, including SDS availability and proper usage
  • Coordinate chemical provider service visits, review titration results, and verify proper dilution and application
  • Ensure personnel understand chemical usage, titration procedures, and sanitation application methods
  • Maintain and review sanitation-related records, including pre-op inspections, MSS completion logs, environmental monitoring results, and verification records
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain shift recaps, sanitation reports, inventory tracking, and performance metrics
  • Ensure all sanitation-related non-conformances are properly documented, investigated, and corrected
  • Verify effectiveness of corrective actions and escalate unresolved or recurring issues to QA leadership
  • Identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement in sanitation performance, efficiency, and compliance
  • Assist with sanitation program validation activities and cross-functional improvement initiatives
  • Verify that sanitation personnel and cross-functional teams are trained on SSOPs, MSS requirements, and sanitation expectations
  • Conduct internal team member sanitation training where appropriate
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with GMPs, SQF standards, and FDA/USDA regulatory requirements
  • Support internal and external audits and regulatory inspections by providing documentation and responding to findings
  • Ensure sanitation programs consistently meet SQF, FSMA, USDA and customer audit requirements
  • Assist in preparation and follow-up of audit corrective actions
  • Partner with Sanitation, Quality Assurance, Operations, and Maintenance teams to address sanitation issues and improve overall program effectiveness
  • Communicate sanitation performance, risks, and corrective actions clearly and effectively to relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure adherence to all safety standards, including proper use of PPE and safe chemical handling practices
  • Establish and communicate emergency sanitation protocols to address unplanned events
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports summarizing sanitation performance, non-conformances, KPI trends, chemical inventory status, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Track key sanitation metrics, including pre-op compliance, ATP pass rates, and MSS completion
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support food safety, quality, sanitation, and operational objectives
