About The Position

The City of Fresno is recruiting for a Sanitation Supervisor to plan, coordinate, assign, and supervise the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the City's solid waste, sanitation, or street sweeping programs. This role involves planning and executing programs to enhance service, prevent interruptions, protect investments, meet grant requirements, and satisfy customer needs. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in assigned operations, and skilled in the safe operation of heavy-duty trucks and hydraulic equipment. Responsibilities include training staff, ensuring adherence to policies, managing time and labor, preparing reports, and investigating accidents and public inquiries. Incumbents may be required to work evenings, holidays, and weekends. The Solid Waste Division operates seven days a week with 5-day, 8-hour shifts. There are currently two vacancies in the Department of Public Utilities-Solid Waste Management Division, Field Services, supervising staff in Litter Control, Operation Clean-Up, and Beautify Fresno programs. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three months, with possible extension.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree or possession of SWANA Technical Certification in Integrated Solid Waste Systems Management.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of a community solid waste system or three years of responsible full-time work experience in receiving, distributing or logistics operations in a warehouse, commercial environment or public facility.
  • Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class "C" California Driver's License or equivalent.
  • Must obtain and maintain a SWANA Technical Certification in Integrated Solid Waste Systems Management within twelve (12) months of assignment.
  • Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
  • Selected eligible candidates will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment.
