About The Position

This leadership role at Pilgrim’s oversees the full execution of sanitation programs within a poultry processing plant. The Sanitation Superintendent provides direction and support to sanitation supervisors managing daily shift-level activities, ensuring the facility consistently meets all sanitation, food safety, and regulatory requirements. The role involves partnering with sanitation managers to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency. Key responsibilities include guiding cleaning processes, verifying the proper use of sanitation equipment and chemicals, and ensuring strict adherence to USDA, OSHA, and company sanitation standards. This position requires strong organizational and leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to proactively address issues to maintain a safe and sanitary environment that supports reliable, high-quality production.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Previous management experience in a food or poultry processing facility
  • At least one year of directly related experience
  • Effective communication both orally and in writing
  • Capable of independent decision making
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in MS Office software applications

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee sanitation supervisors and hourly sanitation employees to ensure all sanitation activities are completed safely, correctly, and on schedule.
  • Train, coach, and develop sanitation staff; plan, assign, and direct daily work while evaluating performance and administering discipline.
  • Maintain accurate personnel records and ensure consistent communication, guidance, and support across all sanitation shifts.
  • Ensure full compliance with Pilgrim’s sanitation procedures, USDA regulations, OSHA requirements, and all relevant food safety standards.
  • Serve as the primary communication link between the plant and USDA regarding sanitation matters.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with chemical suppliers.
  • Monitor inventory, usage, and proper handling of sanitation chemicals and supplies.
  • Assist with managing the sanitation department budget, identifying opportunities for cost control and continuous improvement.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the Operations Team.
