About The Position

The Sanitation Specialist is responsible for training, coaching, and assisting with the detailed cleaning of baking equipment and structures in a food manufacturing environment. This role utilizes specialized equipment and techniques to ensure the facility is always audit-ready. The Specialist will act as the on-shift coach and assistant for sanitation events, guiding production shifts in breaking down, cleaning, and sanitizing equipment. Responsibilities include inspecting equipment, taking swabs, and on non-clean-up days, completing environmental swabs, creating/updating SSOPs, and undertaking special sanitation projects.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in safely executing sanitation processes on equipment.
  • Proven experience in safely executing sanitation processes on structures such as walls, floors and drains.
  • Ability to run sanitation equipment such as a scrubber and a foamer.
  • Ability to use sanitation chemicals.
  • Ability to read, understand and communicate safety labels on chemical containers.
  • Ability to train and evaluate those responsible for cleaning.
  • Ability to make decisions based on standard practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Basic understanding of sanitation processes and related equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed with little or no notice.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to reach and bend over.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Properly follow all sanitation standards, quality standards, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and detailed operating manuals.
  • Demonstrate good verbal communication skills.
  • Familiar with SQF, HACCP, and GMP practices which help ensure safety within the workplace and the production of a safe and quality product.
  • Follow work instructions and OSHA safety rules, including the use of PPE and other safety equipment in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to work in a food-manufacturing/food distribution environment.
  • Must be able to grasp, bend, lift, carry or otherwise move equipment parts within a maximum of 25lbs. on an intermittent basis.
  • Must be able to scrub equipment using long handled brushes and scrub pads safely sometimes at heights.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent is preferred.
  • Complete working knowledge of sanitation processes typically resulting from a minimum of one-year experience in related jobs is acceptable, but not necessary.
  • Bilingual is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and perform assignments in accordance with established GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) policies and procedures.
  • Coach and perform assignments in accordance with established Safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete all facility training.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions for Sanitation.
