About The Position

This position involves the upkeep and maintenance of the shop, the truck pressure wash area, and the inventory storage area. It includes manual labor work in general maintenance, painting and welding repair of dumpsters and other commercial sanitation equipment. It includes the delivery and pick up of dumpsters to and from various locations. It also includes delivery and pick up of trucks to and from Fleet and other local and out of town vendors. Drives designated vehicles as directed. Inspects Commercial trucks for issues and cleanliness, including tires, as directed, reporting issues to the manager. Reports to Commercial Sanitation Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of experience in the maintenance of equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
  • Must also have welding experience, including the use of various welding equipment.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must possess a Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Ability to drive one-ton truck, loaders, garbage trucks, or support equipment having multiple hydraulic control levers.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to learn repetitive tasks quickly.
  • Must have steel toe work shoes, which are paid for by the City.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and reports.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance on dumpsters.
  • Drives one to thirty ton trucks and and loader to unload, pick up, deliver, or move dumpster boxes.
  • Cleans, performs minor welding repair, repairs lids and doors, and paints dumpster boxes.
  • Uses hand held tools and brushes to complete repairs, cleaning, and painting.
  • Carries large buckets of paint, including five gallons weighing approximately 50 pounds.
  • Uses mig welder, arc welder, plasma cutter, and acetylene cutting torch to perform minor welding repairs to various pieces of equipment.
  • Performs minor welding job assignments by physically attaching items being welded, and obtaining tools and supplies.
  • Moves heavy materials such as steel.
  • Assist in steam cleaning and power washes engines and bodies of front-end loaders and dumpsters.
  • Manually washes and cleans other vehicles, tools and equipment.
  • Performs maintenance and minor repairs to gas and diesel vehicles.
  • Monitors shop and truck wash for cleanliness and general housekeeping.
  • Checks steam pressure washers and drain system for issues and reports them as necessary.
  • Will carry buckets or bags of sand or other absorbent materials out in the field for spill clean-up.
  • Will assist with sweeping streets and parking lots as needed.
  • Transports vehicles and personnel as needed.
  • Works as backup for shuttle route as needed.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain shop inventory, including the purchase and requesting of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Loads and transports dumpsters to vendor for scrap.
  • Inspects dumpster pads for proper size and location.
  • Ability to communicate with a two-way radio.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
