About The Position

The Sanitation Lead is a working line lead responsible for coordinating and performing sanitation of production and support equipment in compliance with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and food safety regulations. This role works alongside the sanitation team, providing guidance, training, and support to Sanitation Technicians and the CIP Operator. The Sanitation Lead ensures sanitation activities are performed effectively and efficiently to support product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge used for data entry tasks
  • Minimum of 2 years of sanitation or food manufacturing experience required.
  • Experience with CIP systems strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience serving as a lead, trainer, or resource in sanitation or related operations.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, MSS, and food safety standards.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate and troubleshoot sanitation and CIP equipment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills; ability to train and mentor peers.
  • Must be forklift certified or able to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Proficiency in English required; bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Frequent use of hands for gripping, scrubbing, and handling sanitation equipment.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed.
  • Frequent reaching at, below, and above shoulder level.
  • Ability to work in hot, humid, wet, and cold environments with exposure to chemicals and pressurized water.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, face shields, waterproof clothing, and steel-toe shoes.
  • Must maintain mental alertness, focus, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CIP systems strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily sanitation activities for Sanitation Technicians and the CIP Operator.
  • Perform sanitation of production equipment, tools, and facilities per MSS, SSOPs and GMPs.
  • Operate and monitor Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems; verify parameters such as time, temperature, flow, and concentration.
  • Guide and mentor sanitation team members in chemical handling, equipment cleaning, and safe work practices.
  • Prepare, mix, and evaluate sanitation chemicals; perform pH and concentration testing as required.
  • Conduct and document pre-operation inspections to verify sanitation effectiveness and readiness for production.
  • Maintain accurate sanitation logs, CIP records, and other documentation to support audits and inspections.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance and Production to resolve sanitation concerns and release equipment for use.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance on equipment readiness following sanitation activities.
  • Safely operate a forklift to move sanitation equipment, chemicals, and waste materials as needed.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, or equipment malfunctions immediately.
  • Ensure sanitation tools, chemicals, and PPE are maintained and available.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sanitation efficiency, CIP performance, and food safety.
  • Participate in safety meetings, internal audits, and food safety programs as assigned.
  • Lead by example by promoting safe work practices, compliance, and teamwork.
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
  • Adapt to changing production schedules and perform other sanitation-related duties as assigned.
