About The Position

As a Sanitation Lead, you will play a key role in overseeing the sanitation of the bakery production areas, ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards. While not a formal supervisory role, you will serve as an informal leader, guiding the sanitation team, coordinating tasks, and ensuring efficient workflow. You will work closely with production and packaging teams to maintain the highest level of cleanliness and food safety in the bakery. The Sanitation Lead adheres to all sanitation standards established by IFS and Food Safety Policies and follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and the Bakery’s Safety Policies.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to work with chemicals, work around hot and noisy equipment, and unusual work shifts
  • Must be fluent in English as a primary or secondary language to effectively communication with leadership and other team members
  • Effective leadership and organizational skills with the ability to guide a team effectively.
  • Ability to properly wear appropriate PPE when in the bakery.
  • Work with a high degree of accuracy and precision.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while ensuring compliance with sanitation procedures.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish to effectively communicate with team members and leadership.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to train and mentor team members, providing support and feedback.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new challenges and scenarios.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods while cleaning equipment and spaces, and comfortable working from various heights.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. intermittently.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, preferred
  • 2+ years related experience, previous experience in sanitation preferred.
  • Knowledge of sanitation best practices and food safety regulations (GMPs, HACCP, IFS), preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate sanitation tasks to ensure timely and thorough cleaning of production areas and equipment.
  • Serve as a point of contact for the sanitation team, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards, GMPs, and sanitation protocols.
  • Clean work areas and bakery equipment, including work surfaces and floors, and assist operators with cleaning and sanitizing equipment and production lines.
  • Remove waste from production, office, and staff amenities and ensure proper waste log entries.
  • Restock paper towels, soap, hairnets, gloves, and remote wash basin reservoirs.
  • Perform Post Maintenance cleanings as needed and ensure thorough sanitation after maintenance work.
  • Collaborate with operators to ensure production lines are thoroughly cleaned during product changeovers.
  • Identify and address slip hazards in production areas during shifts.
  • Conduct periodic check-ins with Packaging & Production Leads to assess supply needs.
  • Organize and oversee the movement of racks or pan stacks as needed.
  • Perform and oversee weekly chemical inventory cycle counts.
  • Conduct weekly janitorial supply cycle counts and ensure supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Maintain cleanliness of exterior building perimeters and ensure proper upkeep of facility grounds.
  • Monitor and address condensation issues in proofing areas.
  • Oversee cleaning of racks, pipes, and overhead fixtures/beams.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the Supervisor on sanitation improvements.
  • Assist in training sanitation team to ensure proper cleaning protocols are followed.
