About The Position

Responsible for the repair and maintenance of all City-owned vehicles, trucks, equipment, machines, small engines, hydraulic and diesel engines with main concentration of Sanitation Units. Employee must obtain quotes, complete work orders, and submit purchase orders documentation as required. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties, as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED)
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related work experience to perform such job.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
  • Applicant must have current valid Class "B" Driver's License and be insurable.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
  • Mechanical repair and maintenance. (transmissions, rear end and braking systems)
  • Determine the extent of motor vehicles repair necessary and implement them.
  • Multi-task.
  • Critical thinker.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends)
  • Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.
  • Perform diagnostic evaluation of city-owned vehicles, trucks, and equipment in the City's fleet. (brakes, air conditioning, hydraulic, electrical, engine repair, transmission repair, oil and filter changes, and diesel work)
  • Inspects vehicles to ensure that they are safe to operate and that inspection stickers are up-to-date.
  • Orders parts and equipment for repairs as necessary.
  • Monitors warranties on fleet vehicles.
