About The Position

Drives a rear-loader sanitation vehicle and collects and disposes of solid waste in residential areas. This role involves collecting and disposing of yard waste and large, bulky items, traveling to and from the transfer station to dispose of waste materials, and clearing alleys to provide adequate space for collection vehicles. The position also requires maintaining and inspecting vehicles, performing required safety checks, and maintaining records of work performed for supervisory review, including vehicle checklists, trip logs, Department of Transportation logs, and repair reports. The employee may also substitute in other sanitation positions as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Texas Class C driver's license required at time of hire.
  • Valid Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in the use of various equipment and machinery, such as hand and power tools and heavy equipment used in disposal activities, including compactors, lifts, claws, and hydraulic systems, as well as shovels, brooms, and rakes.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites.
  • Ability to bend, climb, and lift repeatedly in order to collect materials.
  • Ability to regularly lift 40 to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees and citizens who inquire about disposal procedures.
  • Ability to work with citizens who may have complaints about services provided.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in the collection of waste materials preferred.

Benefits

  • CDL Certification Pay of $80 per week for employees who hold a valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
