About The Position
The City of Nacogdoches is hiring a dependable Sanitation Collection Driver to operate solid waste trucks and help keep the city clean and safe. The position involves collecting and disposing of residential and commercial garbage, yard waste, refuse, and recyclable materials along designated routes. The driver also serves as a working lead on assigned routes, supports city recycling efforts, and performs routine vehicle inspections and minor maintenance.
Requirements
- Valid Class B Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least two years of truck driving and equipment operation experience.
- Ability to perform physical tasks and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices.
- Strong communication skills.
- Familiarity with mobile technology, such as iPads or tablets, for route optimization.
Nice To Haves
- Previous waste collection experience.
- Previous heavy truck driving experience.
Responsibilities
- Drive and operate solid waste collection trucks, including front-load commercial, residential side-load, roll-off, and rear-load packer trucks, along designated routes.
- Safely collect and dispose of residential and commercial garbage, yard waste, refuse, and recyclable materials.
- Serve as a working lead on assigned routes and guide crew members in proper pickup and disposal procedures.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections and minor maintenance, including checking fluids and tire pressure.
- Support city recycling efforts using equipment such as forklifts and skid steers as needed.
Benefits
- Additional certification pay of up to $160.00 per month, depending on class and endorsements.
