About The Position

WGM Group is seeking a talented Sanitarian to join their team in Kalispell, MT. This role involves technical and regulatory work to support land development projects, including applying for and obtaining permits for disposal systems and water supplies in accordance with DEQ and local authority regulations. The Sanitarian will work closely with senior engineers and local authorities to ensure compliance and successful project outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Biology, Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Five years of job-related experience.
  • Registered Sanitarian Certification from the State of Montana within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be a qualified site evaluator for Flathead County or ability to become qualified within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic knowledge of soils, hydrogeology, and site characteristics.
  • Familiarity with local and state wastewater and subdivision rules.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of plans, reports and drawings as related to onsite water and wastewater systems.
  • Skill in the techniques and methods of collecting and interpreting water supply samples.
  • Computer and software skills in AutoCAD Civil3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, permitting processes, and regulatory agencies associated with onsite disposal systems and water supplies.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and an aptitude for problem-solving.
  • Aptitude to develop and maintain strong relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to land development engineers in project work with planning, layout, and the applicability of regulations in regard to onsite sanitary facilities.
  • Design onsite water and wastewater systems.
  • Work with local authorities for approval of well and septic system applications and designs.
  • Coordinate and complete DEQ Municipal Facilities Exemption and Sanitation in Subdivision Exclusion applications, including sanitary rewrites.
  • Complete site evaluations, including test pits and percolation tests to determine suitability of onsite wastewater systems.
  • Perform routine sampling for public water supply systems, public wastewater systems, and monitoring wells associated with discharge permits.
  • Conduct preliminary feasibility studies for onsite water and wastewater needs for proposed residential and commercial developments.
  • Prepare reports, plans and permit applications.
  • Train staff engineers and other junior staff.
