The employee must know and understand all general plant and department safety rules and policies, have the physical ability to perform the functions, and recognize and communicate production problems to the supervisor. Maintaining above-average production efficiency, demonstrating proper procedures for signing off department documents, and knowing the approximate cost of equipment and supplies are also key aspects. The role requires interpreting a surface comparator and having the necessary eye-to-hand coordination to meet surface finish requirements. A practical test is required, including reading and interpreting paperwork, understanding sandblast and chemical cleaning equipment, demonstrating completion of shop numbers to specifications, and loading blast material. The individual must be able to run the department efficiently with minimal assistance, complete departmental paperwork in detail, explain the logic of all phases, and make cost analysis decisions with good judgment. The ability to log onto the main computer system, extract information, log time, enter inventory amounts, and forward to the next operation is necessary. There should be no violations of safety rules. The employee must be able to clean all types of castings using sandblast, shot blast, or chemical methods, including adjusting nozzles and pressure, interpreting surface comparators, operating dust collectors, and maintaining chemical cleaning systems. Knowledge of safety procedures for sandblast equipment, salt bath, and acid cleaning is required.
