About The Position

Anchor Sandblasting and Coatings is seeking Sandblaster Helpers for a project in N Charleston SC, expected to last 4-6 months or longer. This role involves performing various tasks in a shipyard environment, including loading vehicles, cleaning tanks, ships, piers, drydocks, and other work areas. Responsibilities also include sorting lumber, metals, and scrap materials, removing paint and scale from metal surfaces using hand or powered tools, and conveying materials and tools to the worksite. The job requires performing basic and physical tasks such as transporting, loading/unloading materials, tools, and equipment, as well as paint removal, lagging removal, and equipment removal/installation using power and hand tools.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in a shipyard or similar industry highly desirable.
  • Must be able to cooperate and work well with other employees and shipyard personnel.
  • Must be able to take direction from supervisors or more experienced workers.
  • Must be able to carry out simple to complex instructions in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must be able to crawl, stoop, bend, and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and heavy objects.
  • Must be physically able to perform the requirements of the job.
  • May be required to wear a respirator to safely perform assigned tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Shipyard workers may serve as trade helpers, work on supply, operate as fire watches for hot work, assist in clean up and generally get an opportunity to learn more about working in a shipyard environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine physical labor.
  • Move materials, tools, and/or equipment.
  • Clean equipment, vehicles, machinery and work areas.
  • Operate various types of tools.
  • Perform hand brush roll or hand brush painting.
  • Assist blasters by pulling hoses, mucking tanks, and removing grit.
  • Transporting, loading/unloading materials, tools and equipment on and off trucks and ships.
  • Paint removal, lagging removal, removal and installation equipment.
  • Use power tools and basic hand tools to complete tasks assigned.
  • Convey materials and tools to work site.
  • Sort lumber, metals and other scrap materials.
  • Remove paint and scale from ships' metal surfaces, using hand or powered wire brushes.
  • Clean tanks, ships, piers, drydocks and other working areas, using broom and water house.
  • Load vehicles, uses hand truck or dolly.
