About The Position

Aecon is a Canadian leader in infrastructure development, focusing on safely and sustainably building for future generations in transportation and energy sectors. Aecon Industrial specializes in industrial construction and water infrastructure, providing vertically integrated solutions and self-perform work to clients in Canada and the U.S. The company is actively seeking a Sand Blaster to support projects at their Cambridge Fabrication Shop. While a journeyman sandblaster is not required, applicants are expected to have some training with heavy equipment, grinding tools, and power tools used in the sandblasting process. The role involves operating a blast booth, loading and unloading the blast cabinet, and potentially assisting with painting or coating tasks. Successful applicants must become members of the United Association union local 527 as a Metal Trades Worker.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Previous sandblasting experience or training.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs independently.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions using power tools and blasting equipment.
  • Work is primarily performed in a fabrication shop environment and may include exposure to dust, noise, vibrations, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, as required, in all seasonal and weather conditions.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to respirators, protective clothing, gloves, hearing protection, and eye protection.

  • Experience working with or removing heavy metals a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Remove dirt, paint, grease, and other built-up material from surfaces.
  • Set up and operate a blast booth or similar equipment.
  • Load and unload the blast cabinet.
  • Assist with painting or coating as needed.
  • Apply and remove non-skid materials as needed.
  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the classification and Collective Agreement, as assigned.
